Its not what you expect when you’re closing up your premises for the night in the middle of Kent, but a man doing just that ended up being involved in a crash incident involving 5-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher.
The Fiat van (yes, van!) being driven by the legend himself crashed into the end of the barrier that the owner of the premises, Martin Kingham, was lowering as he shut up shop for the day. The force sent the barrier into the legs of Kingham, who was flung onto the bonnet of a car.
Schumacher stopped of course, and it took a little while before people believed what he was saying when he claimed to be who he was. He swapped details (how mundane) and waited for the police to arrive to sort the situation out, and was then picked up by members of his crew who must have been amused at the whole incident.
Perhaps more famed for crashing on the circuit rather than on the road, driving a lowly Fiat van, his spokesperson has since confirmed that he was involved in an accident and that he co-operated with police.
It’s not every day you can claim to have been crashed into by a Formula 1 champion – somehow it sounds so much more exciting than a normal crash…
