There are all sorts of records for getting around the world it seems. Every mode of transportation is covered, every which way to go is too (pole to pole? round the Equator?). That still leaves a lot of space for further expeditions, and one man seems to be doing just that. His name is Graham Hughes and his aim? To step foot in every single one of the 192 member states of the United Nations within a single year. The best part is, it’s all for charity organisation Water Aid too.

While it sounds perfectly doable to you (after all, 365 divided by 192 gives him roughly 1.9 days in each country) he has added a few clauses to his mission. The general theme is that he can’t use private transport, except across water, and he may neither fly nor drive himself anywhere. This is where his own inginuity will have to kick in and the kindness of strangers will be a blessing in disguise.

This guy is seriously earning respect by doing this – lets not forget that a fair few of the countries he has to visit aren’t exactly ’safe’ by our cushy, Western standards and being British isn’t always the easiest way to be accepted in a foreign land. Still, he has made it through 20 countries in 34 days and despite some problems along the way here’s hoping he can do it as planned.

Anyway, here is his introductory video about his trip where you get to listen to his wonderful Scouse accent and marvel at his ginger… ness. You can also check out the website to follow his ongoing quest.
