If you missed this summer’s Batman movie, The Dark Knight, then you’ve either been living under a rock or in North Korea. Either way, you probably won’t be reading this, so I can presume you know all about it. Well, the director of said film is now being sued along with Warner Bros by the mayor of a city in Turkey called ‘Batman’.
They seem to think that the film is cashing in on their name without paying up for the privalege – which is pretty funny in its own right I think. Seems just a tad on the oppurtunistic side, doncha think? In any case, he is adamant they have a case and that the filmmakers should pay up so that they can invest the money into children on the street and women who commit suicide, which he seems to put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the recent film.
It doesn’t seem to bother him that Batman will be 70 next year (first comic in 1939), that its been on TV since 1966 and on the big screen since 1989, oh no. I just think his eyes filled with numbers and thought ‘gotta get me some of that!’. Here’s hoping he loses, for the sanity of us all.
Oh, and Batman is short for ‘Batı Raman Mountains’ according to Wikipedia (so it must be true!) This kinda makes it even more pointless…
