The Isles of Scilly earned their title recently when an advert for a job at the air traffic control centre on the island seemed to be a bit… well, stupid.

The advert featured a line mentioning availability of braile or audio versions of the job ad, obviously for blind or deaf people. Except the job itself is for an air traffic controller. Which, to be suitable for the role, an applicant must pass a medical examination set by international organisations which includes – wait for it – a pre-requisite for nigh-on-perfect 20/20 vision.

So, why the hell would you offer a version of the ad for blind people when the job itself requires someone who can a) see and b) see very well? Well, its all down to equality laws (oh yes) demanding that a job be made available to everyone and anyone, regardless of whether there is a blatant criteria which would stop someone from even being considered from the get-go.

Makes you wonder what other examples of idiocy there are like this one. How about deaf roadies or disabled race track marshalls? Its only a matter of time…
