In Manchester, where I went to university, there exists a few of these bollards which are movable. The idea is that it enables roads to be bus-only, as they have radio transmitters which when activated lower the bollard into a pit in the ground, allowing them to pass. The bollard senses when the vehicle has passed over the top of it and soon after, returns to its usual state as a normal bollard. This stop the car traffic from using routes which serve the bus routes in and out of the busy city centre – you might have seen them in your town.
However, theres always a few people who dont quite get it. Despite the massive warning signs, lights and road markings warning them of the danger of trying to drive over these things when they’re lowered, people still try to get away with it. As in this video…
I’ve seen one of these incidents first hand and I must admit I think it’s hilarious! It is the best ’serves you right’ message to any idiotic driver! And what makes this video even better is that he speeds up towards the thing even when it is clearly rising ahead of him – its not like he got caught unawares by it spearing through the bottom of his car, he just raced headlong into it. What a prat.
