You would have thought that being employed as a cop would take more than saying “sure, I’m a cop” but apparently it doesn’t any more. In a small town in America (very small, 1200 people, over here we call that a barn) they got fooled by this truly elaborate scheme.
The man in question was in fact an unemployed, bankrupt truck driver who happened to have a badge (probably out of a Kinder egg) and a car which I presume is something like the tanks the US police use. Oh, and he had a gun, but that doesn’t matter – if it did, then half of America is in the police force.
The icing on the cake of fail which this is though is the fact that when he gave a phone number to verify he was who he claimed to be, it was most likely answered by his wife. It still fooled them though, and he ended up being given a job by the town’s mayor in the police force.
Complaints arose after his unlawful practises, including stealing from suspects and being generally rough with those he handled. In the end he was discovered when someone asked the sheriff himself about the man, and is now sat in a jail cell while they work out what will happen to him. Apparently 17 people are already suing too, just to keep with the American tradition.
Dumb.
