A Sunday league football match in Manchester, UK has become the scene of a rather weird decision by a referee after one of the players farted. International Manchester FC were playing a match against Chorlton Villa when they were given a penalty. When the player stepped up to take the kick, a Cholton Villa player let rip and thought nothing of it. What he didn’t realise was that the ref had heard it loud and clear, and didn’t like it.
Giving him a booking for ‘ungentlemanly conduct’, and a yellow card, the ref ordered the penalty to be retaken (especially as IM FC had already missed it). Needless to say, they scored on the re-take and one player in the Villa dressing room will now be known as the one who can make a fart cost them a match.
I wonder if this has ever happened in any professional leagues, or any other equally weird decisions for that matter. Can just imagine someone getting a penalty against Manchester United and Rooney getting sent off for farting in the ref’s face…
