A man in Indonesia has dropped over £5,000 worth of bank notes out of a plane over a sports field to promote his new self-help book. He claimed he would rather give the money away to others rather than spend it on a promotional campaign, but was stopped from dropping it over Jakarta by the authorities because of safety concerns.

In a country beset by economic problems, people often come out in great numbers to get a (literal) free lunch or free aid and this was no different. Hundreds of people turned up as his mad scheme became known.

But, what is the point of marketing self help books to people who can’t afford more fundamental things like food and shelter? Its like giving skis to someone in a wheelchair.
