Paper money isn’t the best thing in the world when you think about it, you know. It can burn, get ruined by water or other spills and is generally not as safe as good, old-fashioned coinage – which are exactly the reasons a man in the USA hates it so much. So much, in fact, that he managed to save up over $8000 in coins alone.

What he did next with them is the best bit though – he walked into a Chevrolet showroom, slapped the moolah down (I say slapped, probably more like unloaded) and said he wanted to buy a truck. Which he did. He made up the difference with a cheque, and in the end it took the employees of the showroom nearly 2 hours to count up all the coins.

He said he had been saving them all his life, and had finally been convinced by his family to buy a new truck as his old one was approaching the grand old age of 30.

The 70 year-old had 16 coffee cans full of coins – makes you wonder how much they weighed – he probably needed a truck to take them there in the first place!
