Wheel clampers may well be the most annoying people on the face of the planet: they clamp your car, ruining your day should you actually need to use it, then charge you an extortionate amount to have it unclamped, even more if it was towed, and a ridiculously large fee for every day they have it impounded. Some of them even charge for you to get your car back – so you can understand the rage people feel when it happens to them.
This time, it was a man who had bought a clapped-out car for him and his stepson to fix up for his stepson to drive, and it was parked on his driveway (apparently) with a SORN declaration (Statutory Off-Road Notification). It would seem it wasn’t on his driveway… enough…
It got clamped, of course, him claiming it only had part of a rear wheel on the pavement and the clampers claiming it was half-on, half-off the road. So, taking matters into his own hands, he decided to sort it out.
With an angle grinder.
He’s now cut the car in half – yes, half – because after they bought the thing he realised it would have been uneconomical to repair and so had decided to ditch it anyway. Guess its one way to rectify a situation: power tools!
The clampers and the man are still disputing how much it was on the road, and they claim that in the process of cutting it in half, he ended up setting fire to the car accidentally, thus endangering everyone.
So, man caught slightly breaking the rules, gets punished, decides to teach them a lesson and in the end, has probably come off for the worse. Still no word as to whether he will still have to pay the fees – I guess that would be the ultimate irony!
