If you lost your dog overboard on a boating trip, you wouldn’t expect to find it again would you? Especially if you had searched for hours on end looking for the poor beast, all to no avail. Well, an Australian couple suffered just such a tragedy, only to find out 5 months later than their bundle of fluff and love had been absolutely fine all along.

The dog, named ‘Sophie Tucker’, had actually managed to do its best doggy paddle all the way to an island five nautical miles away. Rangers noticed her a while later on their routine patrols of the area, and simply thought her to be a wild dog. Once they noticed her fattening up from her poor condition though, they started to take more notice. That is when the call came from her owners, asking the rangers if they had seen anything!

They quickly realised that the dog they were looking for was the one on the island and tried to take her away. Unfortunately, since the dog had been existing on a diet of baby goats (yum) and had been wild for a few months, she had got quite an attitude and wouldn’t let people handle her.

Eventually the dog was safely returned to her owners, who say she has fallen back into her old routine, and now no longer hunts goats for food.

Now it’s children.
