A couple accidentally drove up a runway at Norwich International Airport in an attempt to hand over a cheque for £10,000 to air ambulance services at the airport. They had been involved in raising the money for charity and were looking for the air ambulance depot when they made the ‘wrong turn’.

Pat Newman was driving the car with his wife Bridget as passenger when he drove through an open gate and onto the runway. You’d have thought the extremely wide ‘road’ would have given it away, but no. Even the markings on the runway and landing lights didn’t give it away.

They ended up pulling up beside a passenger jet, whereupon 2 security 4×4s arrived and a group of security guards got out. Warned about where they were, the couple apparently said they felt embarrassed – well, wouldn’t you?

Never mind that they could have been hit by a plane, it exposes what is already understood to be generally lax security at the airport (originally exposed by the BBC a while ago). All this money on the ‘War on Terror’ and they cant even lock a bloody gate at an airport… Brilliant.
