Dogs do their ‘business’ anywhere and everywhere – in the process messing up the streets for everyone else to walk on. Everyone has their own ideas for how to clean it up, don’t they – everything from free bags to pick it up with to free corks to stop it in the first place. But Israel has its own idea.
They propose to take DNA samples of all local dogs, then the turds which are left lying around on pavements and in parks will be DNA tested against these samples. The idea is that then they know who it is who owns the dog that did the deed, so they can fine them. Sounds great, until you realise that initially they’re only thinking of taking the initial samples voluntarily. Sigh.
If you’re too lazy to pick up after your own dog, then how likely are you to offer your dog’s DNA to be put on a database so that the authorities can work out it is your dog’s crap that is littering the area? Its a bit like asking a suspected murderer to come in and give his DNA “if he doesn’t mind, if you don’t wanna then no biggie” – the likelyhood of this working without it being compulsory are slim to say the least.
