I’m going on holiday in a few weeks, so what better pass-time to enjoy than watching videos of outright scary aeroplane landings from around the world, eh? Yes, I thought so too, so here are some of the best I’ve seen.

First up is this small plane in Russia, the pilot of which obviously thinks the runway is a bouncy castle. Apparently its a learner pilot, possibly on his first solo flight. So its kind of understandable. Lets just hope they got better!

If any of you have ever been to Saint Martin (small island in the Caribbean) you may know this airport well. The approach takes it right over one of the beaches, and planes have to fly very low as you can see in this video – there is a story that once a 747 making its landing approach was a little too low and ended up collecting the perimeter fence as it came in to land. Let me rush to not sunbathe on that beach!

Ah, now this is awesome – just watch as the plane barely turns before the end of the runway. This is in Saba, an island in the Caribbean again which has a runway which is less than 400m long. Unsurprisingly, it is closed to commercial aircraft.

I saved the best till last – this is the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong which up until 1998 was the main airport. It is known as one of the most difficult landings in the world as the planes have to make an almost 180-degree turn as they make their final approach, land and then make sure they stop in time due to the big bit of sea right at the end of the runway. I have had the joy of landing at this airport when I was a kid, and I can tell you that you do not forget it! Just seeing this 747 making the landing is enough to make my eyes pop out now!
