What is it with people seeing ANYTHING in the sky and immediately crying out ‘UFO!’ and ringing the police? Yet again (see here) someone absolute prannocks in Stirlingshire (Scotland) have excelled the limits of stupidity.
All that happened was someone had a party and released some balloons into the air with candles attached. Quite why, I don’t fully understand – you’d have thought the candles would either go out, or pop the balloons they’re tied to, but that is beside the point. In any case, someone saw this (and by someone I mean at least 12 people in half an hour) and immediately decided that they had in fact seen a UFO and that they immediately needed to notify the authorities.
Now this obsession with calling the police is another thing I don’t understand. If aliens have come all this way to skulk about in the night time in their ships, surely they have pretty nippy ships. So whatever we decide to throw at them, be it a squad car, police helicopter or even a grade-A military fighter jet, it isn’t really going to threaten them is it? What did they want the police to do about it, exactly? Perhaps tell the aliens to go loiter somewhere else, damn hoodies, hanging around our neighbourhood and messing up our cows…
Really people. Stop and think. Just for a second. You might find that it saves you some embarrassment.
