I hate councils. They seem to be mostly staffed by utter idiots who would find it difficult to tie their own shoelaces together, and find excuses whenever possible to charge more each year for offering less actual services to you as an unfortunate resident of their area.

Which is why this story in the news recently really makes my blood boil: a woman in Stoke-on-Trent (UK), who after being forced out of her house, ended up having her new one gutted by demolition workers.

She had originally been moved out of her house due to a compulsory purchase order, which essentially meant that she had to accept her council’s offer of money for her house so they could demolish it and build new swanky housing in its place to make their town look less shit. When she decided on a new place, it was apparently under protection so that it could not have the same fate befall it and end up being snatched from her.

Well, that was the idea.

When she went on holiday, she returned to find a demolition crew in the house, who had already removed her bathroom and kitchen. Great homecoming, eh?

The council say it was a ‘clerical error’ – a nice way to make light of a situation where someone’s own home was almost gutted entirely to make way for a complete demolition. They claim that the contracter was given the wrong address, with the correct house number but wrong street name. This ended up in a monumental cock-up, and how they intend to fix it is beyond me. Perhaps they could actually hire people with a brain cell in future.
